Support Hawaii Robofest 2015!

We’re gearing up for our 8th Hawaii Robofest season! This awesome international scholastic robotics program was introduced to Hawaii in 2006 and ran its first regional tournament at Pearlridge Center. Last year, 250 students participated in the 7th annual Regional Qualifier at the University of Hawaii’s West Oahu campus, making this the largest program among Robofest sites in seven foreign countries and eight different states!

The Hawaii Robofest program provides a fun, engaging portal to science and tech exploration. The program includes activities for students from 5th grade through college but the Hawaii program seems to attract mostly upper elementary and lower middle school students. Typically, coaches are dedicated teachers who donate their time and energy to coordinate Robofest activities for their students. Comments from coaches from last year’s program (Capital One grantees, all Title I schools from the Nanakuli/Waianae district):

  • “What I like best about robotics is being able to integrate STEM into our school’s curriculum. Robofest allowed the students to capture many of the skills (critical thinking, communication, problem solving) that are essential in student success.”
  • “We had 100% parent participation at Robofest…they were very grateful for the first time opportunity in robotics.”
  • “The students learned to support each other…When less experienced members were having trouble with their programming, more experienced members jumped in to help. I also noticed (some members) taking on more of a leadership role.”

Please help us continue to provide these opportunities to schools by making a generous donation to the Hawaii Robofest crowdsourcing fund at GivingTrax:

Our goal is to raise $3,000.00 by the end of December. We would like to support intra-school competitions and initiate a travel fund for Neighbor Island schools to come to Oahu to compete in the Hawaii Regional and to support sending a Hawaii team to the World Fest in Michigan (May 2016).

Mahalo for your generous support!
