isisHawaii Receives Capital One Grant

COlogo(October 7, 2013) HONOLULU, Hawaii – isisHawaii is pleased to announce it has received a $9,946 grant from the Capital OneSM Investing for GoodSM program. isisHawaii will use these funds to support the Hawaii Robofest scholastic robotics program, particularly in expanding to Title I schools (i.e., schools with over 60% student enrollment in federally subsidized lunch programs) on Oahu, Hawaii.

Hawaii Robofest is part of an international network of regional chapters created by Dr. C.J. Chung from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. Hawaii is the largest of 25 sites worldwide that include 7 different countries and 8 states.

In 2012, Capital One support helped isisHawaii introduce the Robofest program to two public elementary schools in Kalihi Valley. Since then, both schools have established  scholastic robotics programs and will continue to integrate robotics in curricula.

“This problem-based approach in engineering for invention…is wonderful in teaching every subject in a meaningful way. Students used math, science, reading, writing and communication skills to complete the project…Robofest will ultimately improve my own teaching practices in the classroom.” ~ Kalihi-Kai 4th Grade Educator
