Po‘okela Academy Visits WindwardCC

September 20, 2013 – Students from Castle High School’s Po‘okela Academy visited Windward Community College in Kaneohe, Hawai‘i, to explore the science behind aquaponics, a sustainable hybrid agricultural method that nurtures both fish and produce in a water-based environment.

Funded by a Hawai‘i P-20 initiative grant (College Access and Challenge Grant), isisHawaii was able to coordinate the activity with the University of Hawai‘i College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR). A big “MAHALO!” to RuthEllen Klinger-Bowen and her team for facilitating hands-on activities. The groups rotated to four different stations to learn from CTAHR scientists about water pH testing, static hydroponics, making worm bins and aquaponics planting.
